American Shade

American Shade is a bluegrass sod that can be used where a turf area transitions from sun to shade. The uncommon characteristics of the grass Poa Supina give it unparalleled performance in shady or high traffic areas, as well as tolerance to moist conditions.

Production Information
American Sod uses the research of the National Turfgrass Evaluation to select the grasses we use in our sod. The national trials collect independent research data from twenty-eight locations in the United States and Canada. Seventy-two of the top Kentucky Bluegrasses are subjected to rigorous testing for attributes like disease resistance, drought tolerance, wear resistance and dark green color. The grasses are then ranked by their overall performance and American Sod selects the ones that rate highest for the Midwest.

Before planting begins, our Illinois and Wisconsin fields are purified to insure against noxious weeds and common bluegrasses. Skilled growers give 24 hour a day attention to the newly planted seeds. After months of expert care, quality control personnel and the Department of Agriculture examine each field. Only after the field has been approved will the harvest begin. Each square yard is then visually inspected before it is shipped. Because we specialize in around-the-clock harvesting and shipping, your sod will be cut just hours before you receive it. This process insures maximum freshness and minimum risk to the turf.
